Is it cheaper to grind a stump or remove it?

Grinding is almost always cheaper than full stump removal (excavation). Removal requires heavy machinery to pull the entire root ball from the ground, which is more labor-intensive and causes more landscape damage.

How long after grinding a stump can I plant grass?

You can plant grass immediately, provided you do it correctly. Remove about 50-70% of the grindings, mix the rest with quality topsoil, backfill the hole, and then add a final 4-6 inch layer of pure topsoil on top before seeding.

Can you grind a stump in the rain?

Yes, you can. The grinder doesn't care about rain, and the wet ground can sometimes make the digging easier. However, the cleanup is much messier, the heavy machine can cause more lawn rutting, and it's less pleasant for the operator.
