Wait, the data point above said a 24" stump at 12" deep was 1.1 cubic yards? Yes. The math above is for a pure cylinder. Most stumps have a wide root flare. We find that a more realistic field estimate is to calculate the cylinder volume and then roughly double it to account for the massive root flare just below the surface. So (0.42 * 2) gives you ~0.84 cubic yards, which is much closer to our field-measured ~1.1 cubic yards for a mature hardwood. The point is, the volume is significant.
Grinding Depth: How Deep is Deep Enough?
